1) Poor Little Fishbowl Sink
It’s basically a combination sink/goldfish bowl. The more water you let drain from the tap, the less this poor fish has to swim in. Once you turn the tap off, water in the fish bowl starts to fill in again, making a strong statement about water wasting. Rest assured, the tap water’s pipeline isn’t connected to the bowl so the water is pure, so don’t worry you won’t be drinking aquarium water!
Designer Yan Lu says his innovative sink is “an emotional way to persuade consumers to think about saving water,” but PETA weren’t so thrilled about it and sent him a letter stating, “environmental education does not require cruelty to animals.” Although Yan assures the water never drains out completely, but while the water level returns to normal when the tap is off, it still has to be stressful for the fish to live in a constantly fluctuating environment.
2) Blood lamp
This lamp designed by Mike Thompson actually requires a drop of blood to be activated. Mike Thompson came with that idea when he asked himself, “What if power came at a cost to the individual?” Like our electricity bill wasn’t costy enough! However he IS making a strong statement about energy wasting since this personal sacrifice will make you think twice before turning on the lights.
The lamp’s secret ingredient is luminol, the chemical forensic scientists use to check for blood, which glows blue when it reacts with the iron in red blood cells. Ouch!
